St. Thomas women’s hockey coach Joel Johnson — and his players — knew there were going to be days like this. Ohio State, the No. 2-ranked team in the nation, beat the Tommies 8-1 on Friday night at St. Thomas Ice Arena, and the outcome was hardly a shock. Just as predictable for Johnson, however, was the focused effort he received from his players. “I was excited about how we played,” he said after the Tommies fell to 4-6-1 overall and 2-6-1 in the WCHA. “We gave up some faceoff opportunities that we need to clean up, but other than that, I’m OK.
