COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State basketball escaped a potential season-opening loss on a game-winning layup from Zed Key for a 67-66 win over Akron. The Zips drew up a play for Ali Ali to come off a screen for a three-point shot. Ali nailed the shot fouling out Ohio State’s best option E.J. Liddell in the process. He completed the four-point play giving the Buckeyes six seconds to respond. OSU got the ball into Meechie Johnson Jr. who dribbled past the midcourt line before calling timeout leaving 3.2 seconds to play. Justin Ahrens inbounded the ball to Malaki Branham who found Key sealed off in the paint and made a layup leaving 0.3 seconds to play.
