Improved Ohio State defense bracing for Purdue's prolific passing game

Defensive coaches often say their goal is to make offenses one-dimensional. That won’t be that hard for No. 4 Ohio State on Saturday against No. 19 Purdue. But that won’t necessarily mean success, either. The Boilermakers’ forte is passing. Running is an afterthought. Purdue ranks eighth nationally in passing yards per game with 332.4. That’s second behind only the Buckeyes’ 352.8 in the Big Ten. The Boilermakers’ run game is 128th nationally and last in the Big Ten. They run for only 77.1 yards and average only 2.4 per carry. Against a Buckeye defense that has been stout against the run, it’s possible Purdue won’t even try to keep the Buckeyes honest. “It’s always good when a team throws a lot because you want to have opportunities to make plays,” cornerback Sevyn Banks said.
