
EAST LANSING – Mel Tucker opened the month referring to it as November madness. The second-year Michigan State coach has a team that remains in the thick of the hunt. The No. 8 Spartans (9-1, 6-1 Big Ten) rebounded from a loss at Purdue last week with a 40-21 win against Maryland on Saturday in East Lansing. That sets up a showdown at No. 6 Ohio State (9-1, 7-0) next week. “It’s November,” Tucker said, “and we know what’s at stake.” Michigan State is in a position that seemed highly improbable heading into the season after posting a 2-5 record last year. Tucker overhauled the roster through the transfer portal, the Spartans have been much improved and have two huge games left in the regular season – at Ohio State and at home against Penn State.
