When Ohio State was put in the College Football Playoff last year, there was debate about whether the Buckeyes deserved to be in. Despite being undefeated, the Scarlet and Gray played six games, including a Big Ten Championship Game and faced only two teams in the last rankings of the regular season. The uncertainty of a COVID-19-shortened season is no more, but it’s not as if 2020 was the first time Ohio State was questioned before playing on the biggest postseason stage in the sport. Even in 2014, when the Buckeyes won the first Playoff national championship, there was a viable case to be made that other teams deserved to be in the field of four over the Scarlet and Gray, for instance.
