
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State’s ascent to No. 2 in the new College Football Playoff rankings will officially increase the anticipation for a possible national championship collision with Georgia. That is, unless Michigan derails the Buckeyes in The Game on Saturday. The CFP selection committee has consistently looked favorably on the Wolverines throughout the four-week rankings process. Michigan debuted at No. 7, one week after its loss to Michigan State. Selection committee chair Gary Barta later revealed there was some discussion in the room as to whether the Wolverines should still be ranked higher than MSU. A week later, after the Spartans’ loss to Purdue, Michigan moved back ahead of them at No. 6. Notre Dame and Oklahoma State, which came in at Nos. 6-7 Tuesday night, have consistently been ranked behind the Wolverines.
