Ohio State football’s Ryan Watts enters transfer portal after two seasons with Buckeyes


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football already had a shortage of experienced defensive backs, and it has one fewer after redshirt freshman Ryan Watts entered the transfer portal on Friday. Bucknuts first reported the departure, which is OSU’s fourth outgoing transfer since the end of the regular season. For Watts, the big, talented defensive back faced an uncertain role heading into 2022. “I will always continue to push and challenge myself to achieve my goals, even if that means leaving a good thing,” Watts wrote in a Twitter post announcing his decision. The 6-3, 205-pound Watts, who redshirted in 2020, played 49 snaps a season-opening victory over Minnesota. He was pressed into extensive action that night by the absence of veterans Cam Brown and Sevyn Banks.
