LOS ANGELES — Utah cornerback Clark Phillips III once figured he’d be on the other sideline of the 108th Rose Bowl. For sixth months, he was committed to playing for Ohio State. But four days before the start of the early signing period in December 2019, his plans began changing. Jeff Hafley, the Buckeyes defensive co-coordinator who had been recruiting him out of La Habra High School in Southern California, left to become the coach at Boston College.
