
LOS ANGELES — As he began his senior year of high school, Clark Phillips believed if he ever played in a Rose Bowl, it would be for Ohio State. By December of that year, the cornerback held a phone in his hand on national signing day, preparing to make a “tough call.” It went to Buckeyes coach Ryan Day, to tell him he would not be following through on his verbal commitment.
