Ohio State basketball’s Meechie Johnson Jr. cleared to play following facial injury

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State basketball is expecting Meechie Johnson Jr. to return to the court when it plays Minnesota tonight. The 6-foot-2 guard’s return brings back some much-needed depth to the Buckeyes’ backcourt as both a scoring threat and quality perimeter defender. Johnson was averaging 6.6 points through 13 games before suffering the injury prior to a road match against Wisconsin and missing the next three games. OSU went 2-1 in that span along with having a home game against Nebraska postponed. While Johnson makes his return, Ohio State will be without point guard Jamari Wheeler for the first time this season as he nurses an ankle injury. Wheeler is averaging 7.1 points this season. He joins Justice Sueing and Seth Towns as unavailable tonight. Towns is the only player who has yet to play this season. More Buckeyes coverage How an NFL star’s approval sets up Tim Walton…
