Ohio State basketball overcomes ugly first half in 70-45 win over Minnesota


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State basketball didn’t look like a team capable of making a deep tournament run despite its 70-45 win over Minnesota. The Golden Gophers went to a two-three zone midway through the first half and suddenly the Buckeyes forgot how to execute on offense. The result was a 25-23 halftime deficit where they shot 41 percent from the field, 13 percent from three and turned the ball over eight times. The only positive of the first 20 minutes was that Minnesota’s efficiency numbers weren’t much better shooting 33 percent and 36 percent from three. Plus those turnovers didn’t amount to much production with just eight points. Given how the first half played out only trailing by two points was a good place to be.
