Ohio State opens spring practice, but building of needed leadership began in January

Ohio State opened spring practice on Tuesday with the enthusiasm expected for a team eager to be on the field for the first time in more than two months. Not much of significance could be gleaned from the brief segment of practice open to reporters. Players weren’t in pads. There was no hitting. Coach Ryan Day is treating this week’s two practices before spring break as light practices. In truth, though, the most important work in preparing for the 2022 season started seven weeks ago. Day believed the Buckeyes had a leadership deficiency last year. Offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson said he detected as early as February 2021 that it could be an issue.
