Ohio State basketball’s Justin Ahrens to transfer for final year of eligibility


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Justin Ahrens is planning to take advantage of the extra year of eligibility award to student-athletes following a 2019-20 season that was halted by COVID-19. He just won’t be doing so in an Ohio State basketball jersey. As first reported by CBS Sports’ Jon Rothstein, Ahrens will enter the transfer portal. Ahrens was the last member of Chris Holtmann’s initial recruiting class as head coach in 2018 still on the roster with Luther Muhammad and Jaedon LeDee transferring to other programs while Duane Washington Jr. went pro after the 2020-21 season. He came to Columbus as a three-star recruit and a sharpshooter from three-point range slowly working his way up the depth chart over the past four years. While he flashed his three-point shooting ability during his career — 39.2 percent — Ahrens never became much of a volume shooter with just 3.4 attempts per game. That…
