
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Even if you do not yet know Joe Royer’s name, you may know his hair. Ohio State football’s sophomore tight end stands 6-5, but that may be embellished slightly by the fuzzy fro encircling his head. Distinctive hairstyles are nothing new in a college football program. Royer’s particular choice, though, stands out among the Buckeyes. “I’m not really sure where I got it from, because both of my parents have straight hair,” said Royer, who adopted that follicular approach along with some of his Cincinnati Elder teammates. “My sister has really curly hair as well. It’s kind of my thing, kind of my trademark, so I like it. I keep it pretty long.” Royer, though, wants to be known for more than his dandelion-like appearance.
