
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Thad Matta’s new staff at Butler will have a significant Ohio State basketball presence. IndyStar’s David Woods reported Tuesday that Matta has hired former Buckeye stars Greg Oden and Jon Diebler to his support staff. Both played on Final Four teams under Matta during his tenure as the Buckeyes’ all-time winningest coach. Oden played only one collegiate season but led OSU to the 2007 national championship game. He starred at Indianapolis’ Lawrence North High School prior to that second team All-American season. A first-round pick of the Portland Trail Blazers, Oden’s played only three NBA seasons in a seven-year span due to injuries. Oden returned to OSU in 2016-17 as a student manager while completing his degree. He spent last season on Chris Holtmann’s staff as a graduate assistant.
