Ohio State will pay Youngstown State $800,000 for its newly scheduled non-conference game against the Penguins in 2023, according to a copy of the contract obtained by The Dispatch through a public-records request on Friday. It’s a lower guaranteed payout than the Buckeyes had owed to San Jose State before the schools mutually agreed to cancel next year’s contest on the same Sept. 9 date. The Spartans were to receive $1.8 million for a trip to Ohio Stadium. The Buckeyes replaced SJSU on their non-conference schedule with Youngstown State, a member of the lower Football Championship Subdivision. They have not faced an FCS team since a 76-0 win over Florida A&M in 2013. Ohio State previously hosted Youngstown State in 2008 and 2007, winning 43-0 and 38-6 in those years, respectively.
