What’s the most interesting thing about Ohio State football’s linebackers?


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Jim Knowles comes into an Ohio State linebacker room filled with a unique blend of talent and experience. Steele Chambers and Tommy Eicherberg have practically solidified themselves as the starters, while Cody Simon is expected to have a significant role as well. All three played north of 400 snaps last season. Behind them is where things get interesting. Teradja Mitchell was a starter and a captain at the beginning of the 2021 season but gradually watched his playing time dwindle. Palaie Gaoteote was a USC transfer expected to make an impact, but that never quite panned out. Reid Carrico is a second-year former top 100 recruit still trying to carve out a role. Chip Trayanum is trying to repeat Chambers’ success as a former running back-turned-linebacker. Then there are true freshmen C.J. Hicks and Gabe Powers, both of which might have the highest ceilings in the room…
