Ohio State football’s sloppy explosiveness beats Arkansas State, 45-12


COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football remains incomplete, in both roster and performance. The latter — including undisciplined and sloppy play for an extended portion of the first half — is much more concerning. The Buckeyes clobbered Arkansas State 45-12 on Saturday. A week earlier, the “only winning matters” had some validity with then-No. 5 Notre Dame in the building. That assessment cannot apply against a Sun Belt team that finished 2-10 a year ago, regardless of the abundance of Power 5 transfers the Red Wolves added in the offseason. When breakdowns occurred, however, Ohio State at least saw signs of accountability. Starting cornerback Denzel Burke endured a miserable first half, committing two pass interference penalties on one drive and giving up a 58-yard sideline bomb on another.
