COLUMBUS, Ohio — Every time Ohio State kicks off a game, a game of Find the Punter should break out. The Buckeyes win when they don’t even have to look for him. Is he in the bathroom? In the stands with the band? Inside the jersey of mammoth offensive lineman Dawand Jones? Who cares? Doesn’t matter when he’s not needed. A year ago, Ohio State never punted five times in a game. They only punted even four times in a game twice. For the 2021 season, the Buckeyes punted just 31 times, which was last among the 131 teams in major college football.
