
The poohbahs of Major League Baseball smiled upon our newsroom when they scheduled the games for the Guardians Wild Card series with Tampa Bay, with starting times early enough for us to publish multiple stories and photos in the next day’s editions of The Plain Dealer. With plenty of time to work their magic, the design team led by Skip Hall created pages that brought us reader emails applauding the photos, the headlines and the depth of coverage. The headline “Oscar Worthy” with a photo of Oscar Gonzalez following his series-winning home run was priceless. We were not so fortunate with the first game of the series with the Yankees. The editions that landed on doorsteps Wednesday morning did not contain the results. Chances are, as the Guardians continue in the playoffs, this will happen again. And it will happen for the Browns/Bengals Monday Night Football game on Halloween. And…
