Ohio State football rises to No. 2 in coaches poll

Ohio State is now the consensus No. 2 in the major polls. While idle this weekend, the Buckeyes rose one spot in the USA TODAY Sports AFCA coaches’ poll due to Alabama’s 52-49 loss at Tennessee. The Crimson Tide had been voted No. 1 by the coaches in consecutive weeks before falling to No. 6 in the latest poll released Sunday. The ranking for the Buckeyes matches their spot in the Associated Press poll. In the aftermath of their blowout 49-20 win at Michigan State last weekend, they had moved up to No. 2. Georgia is atop both of the polls, while a handful of other unbeatens fill in after Ohio State in the top five. In the coaches’ poll, Michigan is No. 3, Tennessee is No. 4 and Clemson is No. 5.
