COLUMBUS, Ohio — When you’re 6-0 and blowing conference opponents off the field, as Ohio State football has over its past three games, otherwise overlooked topics go under the microscope. That’s how backup quarterback Kyle McCord became a trending topic of sorts over the past month. A vocal segment of the fan base has advocated for coach Ryan Day to let his sophomore run the full offense more after starter C.J. Stroud hands him a considerable lead sometime in the third quarter. McCord did not play in the close-until-the-gun season opener against Notre Dame. Then he played 53 snaps over the next five games. Only nearly 70% of those snaps, he either handed off, ran the ball himself (three carries) or took a knee in victory formation.
