COLUMBUS, Ohio — For perhaps the first time all season, Ohio State football was beaten in an entire phase of the game last Saturday against Iowa. Not on defense, obviously, as evidenced by the 54-10 final. Not even in the passing game, which overcame some clunky moments to find its groove in the second half. The Hawkeyes beat the OSU run game. They almost completely choked off those big gashes and explosive plays that had so frequently scorched opponents over the first half of the season. Ohio State especially missed those chunks on first down, which provided Iowa with some favorable down-and-distance scenarios throughout the game. Offensive coordinator Kevin Wilson pointed to several shortcomings. Iowa’s front six played as fundamentally sound as expected, and OSU did not stay on blocks long enough.
