Larry Johnson nestled into the gym at a suburban Seattle school. He sat on a bench along the court and wrote down notes as he watched a top defensive line recruit go through a two-hour basketball practice. That winter afternoon in 2020 gave him a rare opportunity to see J.T. Tuimoloau up close. The recruiting dead period that would later be in place for 15 months as a result of the coronavirus pandemic brought in-person visiting to a halt. But Johnson, the veteran defensive line coach at Ohio State, needed only one trip to the Pacific Northwest to be dazzled by the talent shown by Tuimoloau at Eastside Catholic. He could do it all.
