Ohio State football’s windy win at Northwestern: ‘I’ve never been around conditions like this’

EVANSTON, Ill. — Ohio State football tried to prepare itself, physically and mentally, for the adverse weather conditions at Northwestern on Saturday. By the time the eventual 21-7 victory kicked off, it became clear preparation was almost useless. One of the nation’s most explosive offenses was rendered one-dimensional by wind gusts that blew stiff rains sideways throughout the first half at Ryan Field. “I thought they were just hyping it up when they said 40 mile-per-hour gusts,” receiver Emeka Egbuka said. “But pregame when you’re catching those punts, it looked like it was going over your head and it lands 20 yards short of you.” Ohio State coach Ryan Day said his team planned for the weather, having seen the unfavorable forecast early in the week.
