Quarterback C.J. Stroud uses legs to bolster Ohio State football in win at Northwestern


EVANSTON, Ill. — When Ohio State faced a fourth down late in the second quarter of its 21-7 win at Northwestern on Saturday, it did something unusual. The Buckeyes had quarterback C.J. Stroud run in order to move the chains. Eight of the Wildcats’ defenders stuffed the box as they needed only a yard to reach the first-down marker. After taking the snap out of the shotgun, Stroud prepared to hand off to Miyan Williams, prompting the defense to swarm the running back. But Stroud instead kept the ball and took off running toward open grass.
