Emeka Egbuka considers it among his most cherished memories. When he was 9 years old, he walked onto Safeco Field and tossed the ceremonial first pitch before a Seattle Mariners game. “It was the best thing,” Egbuka said. “It was so awesome. You see celebrities throw out the first pitch.” The honor went to Egbuka after he won Major League Baseball’s Pitch, Hit & Run national competition for his age group. Much of his childhood on the Puget Sound was spent on the diamond. He looked up to Mariners stars such as Ichiro Suzuki and Felix Hernandez. His experience playing the sport contributed to a well-rounded skill set that would make him one of Ohio State’s leading receivers as a sophomore this fall.
