Ohio State football’s Ty Hamilton making a name, from ‘cold-blooded gentleman’ to ‘giant muscle’


COLUMBUS, Ohio — In the Ty Hamilton nickname game, Ohio State football defensive coordinator Jim Knowles had seemingly clinched the championship by describing him as a “cold-blooded gentleman.” The Buckeye players already had their own nickname for the third-year defensive tackle: “Giant muscle.” Senior defensive tackle Taron Vincent dropped that monicker when describing the confidence he feels lining up to Hamilton. “I just know, nobody’s going to knock him off the ball, so his gap’s always going to be sound,” Vincent said. Hamilton made his first two starts this season in the past two games against Northwestern and Indiana. It might be a permanent assignment.
