Ohio State’s C.J. Stroud makes case as top pick in NFL draft


ATLANTA — The portrayal of Ohio State quarterback C.J. Stroud was of a skilled, but uninventive pocket passer. Stroud shredded that storyline here Saturday night in the semifinals of the College Football Playoff. He was no statue and showed an improv proficiency that is going to make the NFL seriously consider whether he deserves consideration to be top quarterback taken in the draft, along with Alabama’s Bryce Young.Eight hours after Young sliced up Kansas State in the Sugar Bowl, Stroud dueled Georgia and its top-rated defense in a cauldron of 79,330 fans in Mercedes-Benz Stadium. A redshirt sophomore, Stroud completed 23 of 34 passes for 348 yards and four touchdowns in the CFP national semifinal game.
