
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Luke Wypler’s decision to enter the 2023 NFL Draft set off a domino effect on Ohio State football’s offensive line. Matt Jones helped stop the tumbling of those tiles when he announced Wednesday he will be back for a sixth season. The second team All-Big Ten Conference guard gives the Buckeyes two returning starters up front, along with Donovan Jackson. Yet the most important aspect of Jones’ return is not his experience, or perhaps even his skill. Jones changes the calculus of next year’s line because of his versatility. While he started 12 games last season at guard, he has worked out extensively at center in the past. With Wypler gone, Jones could move over one spot and give the yet-unnamed new starting quarterback a trusted veteran to execute next season’s snaps.
