COLUMBUS, Ohio — The future of Ohio State basketball was laid out in a loss before a half-empty arena on Thursday night as freshmen played about half the Buckeyes’ minutes. There could be promise in that future. There’s also peril. You could see young players that maybe — maybe — will get the Buckeyes back on track next season. You could also see vanishing interest in a team at risk of alienating more fans who don’t see reasons to invest in this program. The basketball Buckeyes are missing so much right now, it’s stunning for a program this established to be this lacking. They haven’t quit, but they aren’t connected. They aren’t broken, because this roster of freshmen and transfers was never truly assembled. They’re lost.
