
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Jim Knowles arrived a year ago fresh off turning Oklahoma State’s defense into one of the best the nation had to offer tasked with doing the same with Ohio State and he did so for the most part, but still had some glaring failures. The idea surrounding what the Buckeyes’ defense could be started with the introduction of a new position that had followed Knowles from school to school often developing into the backbone of his scheme. Up until last season, he’d never run into a situation where it just flat-out never worked.
