COLUMBUS, Ohio — Can’t fix a problem until you admit it’s there. In that way, Ohio State’s defense has already made progress this spring. Jim Knowles is starting Year 2 as the Buckeyes’ defensive coordinator, and he spoke at the start of spring football practice last week of the things he and the OSU defense need to improve. Stonewalling with a blissful all-is-well attitude would have been worse, but it was also a bit bracing to hear Knowles explain what didn’t work after he came in as the highest-paid defensive coordinator in college football. What you could see in the moment months ago as the 11-0 Buckeyes finished the season with two losses to Michigan and Georgia, Knowles is tipping a cap to now.
