Ohio State women’s hockey falls short in national title repeat attempt

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State’s national title repeat attempt was stopped cold Sunday, as the Buckeyes’ women’s hockey team was shut out for the first time this season. It happened in the national title game, a 1-0 loss for No. 1 Ohio State to unseeded Wisconsin at the Frozen Four in Duluth, Minn. Ohio State won the first women’s hockey title in program history a year ago and carried that championship and the No. 1 ranking all season. The Buckeyes beat Quinnipiac and Northeastern in the postseason on the way to the title game, but the Badgers stymied the Buckeyes to claim their seventh title in program history. The Buckeyes (33-6-2) entered the game averaging 4.22 goals per game, the second-most prolific offense in the nation.
