COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football’s nine-month quarterback evaluation needed to culminate in more than the emergence of a starter. Ryan Day endeavored to push both Kyle McCord and Devin Brown to their potential, to ensure that the Buckeyes had two quarterbacks capable of leading a team toward a Big Ten championship. His project continues, even as Day named McCord the full-time starter on Tuesday morning. That meant also breaking the news to Brown that he will revert to a traditional backup role. The redshirt freshman had played in the first half of both games this season. That may not happen again unless McCord is forced out of a game. Day said Brown took the news professionally.
