Ohio State’s backup option at center staying ready for whatever position he’s needed at

COLUMBUS, Ohio — For now, Ohio State isn’t making a change along the offensive line. That doesn’t mean the Buckeyes are afraid of making a change in the future, though. On Tuesday, coach Ryan Day was asked about sixth-year right guard Matthew Jones playing center against Michigan State, and added that due to the score and the plan, it was good to get Jones run at center in place of usual starter Carson Hinzman. Day then added that, while they’re sticking with the same starting five for this week’s game against Minnesota, “every week we’re constantly evaluating.” So now, with just one game left before the regular season finale at Michigan on Nov. 25, the question remains if Jones’ work at center is merely a Plan B insurance policy, or a genuine option for the Buckeyes’ offensive line moving forward.
