Ohio State defense controlling Minnesota, offense needs better finishes: Buckeye halftime scribbles

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football leads Minnesota only 13-0 at halftime after the field position game heavily favored the Gophers. All five of the Buckeyes’ first-half possessions started inside their own 15. Two started at their own 3. That included the final possession of the half, which fizzled out under pass protection breakdowns. Ohio State’s defense has dominated as expected, allowing a mere 90 yards and four first downs. Minnesota is 2-for-7 on third down as Jack Sawyer (2.5 tackles for loss) leads a shutout effort. However, Ohio State’s old bugaboo of not finishing drives has also shown up. Kyle McCord missed some throws in and around the red zone on the third and fourth possessions of the half. Ohio State settled for field goals on both.
