COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football fell one game short of goals to play for the Big Ten Conference championship and return to the College Football Playoff. A Cotton Bowl appearance against Missouri will instead serve as the bridge between those goals and the ones to be established for next season. That outcome still resulted in over $1.78 million in bonuses for coach Ryan Day and his 10-man on-field staff of assistants. Day received a $200,000 bonus for the Buckeyes’ selection to a New Year’s Six bowl game. That is $50,000 less than the bonus he would have achieved for a playoff semifinal appearance. Each of the 10 assistants achieved a bonus equal to 17% of his base salary for the New Year’s Six selection.
