COLUMBUS, Ohio — DJ Uiagalelei was once viewed as one of the sure things at quarterbacking the 2020 recruiting class but his career hasn’t quite gone that way. That class featured three quarterbacks ranked among the nation’s top 50 players in Uiagalelei, Bryce Young and C.J. Stroud. Uiagalelei initially chose Clemson where he backed up Trevor Lawrence as a freshman before taking over the starting job in 2021. Young first picked USC then flipped to Alabama where he backed up Mac Jones for a year before taking over in Year 2. Stroud picked Ohio State backing up Justin Fields then stepping in. Stroud and Young went on to have outstanding college careers before being the top two picks of the 2023 NFL Draft where they are the starters for the Texans and Panthers.
