TAMPA, Fla. — Mekhi Wingo, LSU’s top defensive tackle and a team captain who wore No. 18 this season, declared Tuesday for the 2024 NFL Draft, forgoing his last year of eligibility. After missing the last five games of the regular season because he needed surgery to repair a core muscle injury, Wingo returned for the ReliaQuest Bowl against Wisconsin. He recorded two sacks in the 35-31 win. Wingo announced his decision in a social media post. He thanked Missouri, where he started his career; former LSU defensive line coaches Jamar Cain and Patrick Hill; LSU cornerbacks coach Robert Steeples, who coached him at De Smet Jesuit High; and his teammates and family.
