Gary Danielson is buying the Jeremy Johnson hype. Johnson is a preseason Heisman Trophy favorite despite playing sparingly in three years on the Plains. The CBS college football analyst has watched Johnson in practice and understands why Auburn is one of the favorites to win the SEC this year. “He’s very steady and he won’t get hurt because he’s very big,” Danielson said. “Gus has shown he can morph his offense into any system.” Auburn is expected to be more pass-heavy with Johnson at the helm than it has been the past two years with Nick Marshall. The 6-foot-5, 240-pound quarterback hasn’t thrown much at the college level – he only has 78 passing attempts – but is known for a strong arm. His best performance-to-date, given his limited opportunities, came last season in a win against Arkansas when he threw for 243 yards and two touchdowns. How should Malzahn adjust his offense to utilize Johnson’s strengths?
