Penn State, Ohio State competing for recruits; Juwan Johnson’s case for early playing time, and more

Today’s Penn State football news features a look at where the Nittany Lions could clash with Ohio State on the recruiting trail and the case for freshman wide receiver Juwan Johnson to play early. Penn State and Ohio State’s recruiting efforts overlap in a handful of areas, but particularly in the search for defensive backs in Damar Hamlin, Jordan Fuller and Andrew Pryts. That trio is being pursued by the Nittany Lions and ranks among the Buckeyes’ top 11 remaining targets in a list compiled by Eleven Warriors. Linebacker Aaron Hansford, who will be at Saturday’s Lasch Bash at Penn State, is also a Buckeyes target. Eleven Warriors wrote about Fuller: With (probably) only two slots to be filled by defensive backs in 2016 and Andrew Pryts likely making a commitment before New Jersey’s Jordan Fuller does, why is Fuller at No. 4? Simple: he’s that dang good. The 117th-ranked prospect in the country, Fuller is capable of playing defensive back (Ohio State sees him as a safety), wide receiver, quarterback, or whatever. He’s a supremely talented athlete and is near the “too good to pass up zone” of the recruiting world. Billed as an “extremely talented athlete” by ESPN.com, Johnson has arrived at a position with no set pecking order for playing time. DaeSean Hamilton, Geno Lewis, Saeed Blacknall and Chris Godwin are back and are favorites for prominent roles, and redshirt freshman De’Andre Thompkins has had a year to acclimate. …
