That still leaves a pair of quarterbacks with sparkling résumés to compete for one starting job. There are cases to be made for both Cardale Jones and J.T. Barrett, and the debate over who should take the first snap will likely continue throughout August. Here’s our first crack at it, courtesy of Big Ten football writers Austin Ward and Dan Murphy: Take 1: Austin Ward A victorious romp through the postseason and a perfect record as a starter isn’t enough on its own to hand Jones the job again this fall, but the way the redshirt junior won those three games is certainly worth remembering. There was nothing wrong with the offense under Barrett, but it certainly looked far more dangerous when Jones and his souped-up arm arrived on the scene for the Big Ten title game and the College Football Playoff.
