Sports mailbag: Hokies fans gracious in defeate to Buckeyes backers

My wife and I would like to send along our sincere thanks for the wonderful and warm response we received while attending the recent Ohio State – Virginia Tech football game. Many Virginia Tech students and loyal fans came up to us often and said, “welcome to Tech”, “glad to see you in Blacksburg”, “hope you have a good time, I know you might win, but we will be cheering loudly for our team.” We are Ohio State graduates from the early 1960s and have attended a few away Buckeye football games, and we have never received such a warm and genuine greeting from the fans of the opposing team. What a class act. Please pass this on to the Hokie Nation fans for having expressed their polite and courtesy treatment of the “enemy”. The city and university should be extremely proud of these wonderful gestures. Go Hokies! David and Judi Camaione Morrisville, N.C. Blacksburg a great town, filled with a great people I just returned to Columbus, Ohio, after attending the Ohio State Buckeyes-Virginia Tech game. Blacksburg is a hidden gem. I have attended games in 38 different Division I stadiums and have never experienced the genuine hospitality we received from the Hokies fans. If I had a dollar for every “welcome to Blacksburg” greeting, I could have paid for the valet parking charge at The Greenbrier. A beautiful campus with respectful and gracious fans are a great combination. …
