The Ohio State Buckeyes are still the No. team in college football but quarterback conroversy is arising as starter Cardale Jones has struggled in the past two games. On Wednesday, coach Urban Meyer negated the speculations on the quarterback problem of the Buckeyes by picking Cardale Jones as the starter against Western Michigan. Meyer announced that Jones will be the starter “until he’s beaten out for the job.” Thus, Meyer will not wait ‘til the kick off time which quarterback he will start. After a narrow win against Northern Illinois in Week 3, Meyer didn’t know who his starting quarterback, and he would “spend a lot of time thinking about” naming a permanent starter. Meyer benched Jones after a dismal start last week. He completed only 4 for 9 passes for 36 yards against two interceptions. When Barrett played, he didn’t perform that well also. Jones completed 55.6 percent of his passes for 333 yards, 2/3 TD/INT, and 115 rushing yards. Barrett completed 57.1 percent of his passes for 193 yards, 2/1 TD/INT, and 65 rushing yards. Buckeyes’ offense hasn’t been that strong overall. It’s averaging only 33.3 points per game in comparison to last year’s scoring 44.8 points per game. …
