Urban Meyer says Cardale Jones is still his starting quarterback

Cardale Jones is still Ohio State’s starting quarterback. Urban Meyer announced on Wednesday that Jones will remain Ohio State’s starting quarterback when the Buckeyes face Western Michigan this weekend, and that he’ll be the starter until he’s beaten out for the job. Following last week’s narrow win over Northern Illinois, Meyer said he didn’t know who his starting quarterback was, and that he would “spend a lot of time thinking about” naming a permanent starter. Jones was benched for J.T. Barrett on Saturday after a poor performance. He was only 4 for 9 for 36 yards with two interceptions before being replaced, but Barrett didn’t perform much better once he was in the game. And Ohio State’s offense hasn’t been that great overall. It’s averaging only 33.3 points per game after scoring 44.8 points per game in 2014. The Buckeyes are also lacking the big plays they had so many of last season. Through three games Ohio State’s offense has managed only four plays of 30 or more yards, or 1.3 per game. Compare that to 2014 when the Buckeyes had 46 plays that gained 30 yards or more, averaging 3.1 per game. …
