Ohio State Buckeyes will lose at least once before season’s end

The Ohio State Buckeyes remain on top of the college football standings for the ninth straight week this season, though the number of first place votes they have received has varied over the course of the year. By the end of the season, the Buckeyes will have lost at least one game and may lose their chance to repeat as college football playoff champions.Ohio State has a tragically easy schedule left until the final two games of the season when they face off with the Michigan State Spartans in Columbus before heading to Ann Arbor to play against the Michigan Wolverines. Until then, the Buckeyes play two teams currently sitting at 4-3, the Minnesota Golden Gophers and the Illinois Fighting Illini. Coincidentally, both teams are also 1-2 in Big Ten play. Though Ohio State has been near the top of the conference in most of the team stats this season, something has seemed a little off in their quest to repeat. The quarterback debacle and the conundrum of what to do with Braxton Miller have proven to be the most highlighted of these problems, as well as a middle of the road rushing defense. The other glaring deficiency of the Buckeyes has been the inconsistency of play from game to game. Finally, everyone’s favorite argument against anyone not in the Southeastern Conference: Strength of Schedule. In terms of the Ohio State Buckeyes, this is a relevant argument. Of the teams in the Big Ten, the only team in the Top 25 of the Strength of Schedule list is Michigan. Ohio State falls 53rd on the list and has slowly trickled lower and lower.
