But when he was diagnosed with an inoperable form of brain cancer in September 2014, the college football world — including Michigan’s top rival, Ohio State — rallied around the 5-year-old who doctors initially gave nine months to live. A foundation he inspired, the #ChadTough foundation, has raised money to fund research to combat DIPG and pediatric brain tumors. Last month, he did the coin toss at the Michigan-Oregon State game. This week, his parents announced in a Facebook post that Chad is entering hospice care. “He was going downhill quickly in June and once we started the treatments, he really did get better…and we’ve had another almost 6 months to enjoy our family,” his mother, Tammi, wrote. “But now we believe it’s time to stop fighting and to let him relax and be at peace.” On Wednesday, Tammi posted a photo of the family’s house, covered in Christmas lights — a joint effort, she wrote, from the Michigan men’s basketball coaches and staff and the Ohio State men’s basketball team’s coaches and staff. “They came together to do this for Chad,” she wrote. “Amazing!!!! Love and thanks to you all!! Bigger than the rivalry!!” (Thanks to CBS Sports for bringing this to our attention) 10 Apr Chad Carr, michigan wolverines, Ohio State Buckeyes, NCAAB, NCAAF 188 shares
