Red flags will sprint up the pole when a certain group of college football fans read the following statements: “It would be an absolute travesty …” “Does not belong anywhere near the semifinals. Here’s to hoping the committee does the right thing.” “Go ahead … be angry with me if you want, but this is a joke.” “I’m very disappointed.” Well, Iowa Hawkeye backers, here you go again, right? Here’s another bunch of supposed experts, columnists and analysts taking shots at your football team. Here are people who will not give Kirk Ferentz and his players a single morsel of respect, even though the Hawkeyes are unbeaten and within one game of truly being in the hunt for an FBS national championship. All well and good. But there are three more things you should know: — All of these statements, all of these hard knocks, came one year ago. — Not a single one of them was directed at Iowa. — In fact, the target of this critical barrage was none other than the 2014 Ohio State Buckeyes, the rag-tag bunch that actually won the national championship.
