Reports: Ohio State co-DC Chris Ash to be named coach at Rutgers

Rutgers is filling its coaching vacancy with Ohio State co-defensive coordinator Chris Ash, according to reports from the Asbury Park Press and Sports Illustrated’s Thayer Evans. The Asbury Park Press reports the hire is pending approval by the Board of Governors, who will vote on Monday morning prior to a press conference. Ash has been with the Buckeyes for the last two seasons as co-defensive coordinator after coming to Columbus from Arkansas, where he coached defensive backs and served as defensive coordinator. Under Ash, the Ohio State defense ranked 26th in 2014 and is ranked 2nd in 2015 in scoring. Rutgers was the 89th and 104th ranked scoring defense in the nation the last two years. He will be the second top assistant to leave Ohio State in as many years after Houston hired offensive coordinator Tom Herman following the 2014 campaign. Ash will replace Kyle Flood, who went 4-8 in 2015 and had a 27-24 record over his four years at Rutgers. Rutgers will reportedly hire Ohio State DC Chris Ash. (USATSI)
